The McDaniel College men's golf team has seized the early lead at the Northeast Elite tournament, recording a superb team score of 1-under par 283 in the opening round at Williamsport Country Club. McDaniel holds a commanding seven-stroke advantage over second-place Rochester (290).
The team’s phenomenal start was anchored by three players finishing inside the individual top 10, including a career-best effort from freshman Dylan Muso.
Muso, in a breakout round, carded a career-low 1-under par 70 to finish the day tied for fourth place on the individual leader board. His impressive round included five birdies, three of which came across the final four holes on the front nine, allowing him to close the first nine at one-under par (35).
The top of the leader board is tightly contested:
Rochester’s Alvin Stu holds the lead after shooting a stunning 4-under par 67. He is followed closely by McDaniel senior Ethan Crabb, who finished one stroke behind with a career-low 68. Dickinson’s Collin McMahon-Shea is also well in contention, carding a 2-under par 69.
The dominance of the Centennial Conference was evident, with four of the top five team scores coming from the league: Gettysburg (291) sits third, followed by Dickinson (293) and Swarthmore (297).
With Muso leading a strong start for the team, McDaniel College will look to defend their lead in the final round.
