Thomas College Men's Soccer celebrated their annual "Senior Day" in style, securing a crucial 2-0 shutout victory against NAC opponent Maine Maritime Academy, with a strong showing from four Bermudian players on the roster.
Stefan Simmons, Cody Robinson, Tre Burgess, and Justin Sukdeo were all involved in the win for the Terriers, which improved their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) record to a flawless 4-0.
The match began with a competitive edge, as Mariners had an early scoring opportunity in the second minute that was expertly saved by Thomas goalkeeper Jamie Fischer. The Terriers gradually built pressure, with Serafin Garcia forcing a save in the seventh minute.
The crucial breakthrough came just before the half-hour mark in the 29th minute. Bermudian Tre Burgess delivered a pinpoint cross that was flicked on by Jeremiah Gomez to David Ivarsson, who slotted the ball home to give Thomas College a 1-0 lead.
Thomas College continued to dominate the scoring opportunities, forcing several saves before the half.
The Terriers found their insurance goal early in the second half. In the 56th minute, Shafi Ibrahim pushed the tempo and quickly found Kevin Segura, who played it to Ordi Bimvy for the 2-0 scoreline.
Despite a chippy second half—which saw yellow cards for both sides—and a late push from the Mariners that resulted in a narrow miss on an open goal, the Thomas College defence, anchored by a final save from Fischer in the 89th minute, held firm for the 2-0 shutout.
The strong victory, propelled by the Bermudian contingent, keeps Thomas College undefeated in their NAC campaign. Tre Burgess was a key catalyst in the attack, earning an assist on the opening goal.
