Tulane University's sailing team, led by a stellar performance from Christian Ebbin, has positioned itself for a victory after a dominant display on day one of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Open Sailing Regatta on Lake Pontchartrain.
The Green Wave finished the day at the top of the leaderboard with 105 points, establishing a significant lead over the competition. Bermudian sailor Christian Ebbin was instrumental in the team's success, sailing the A Class boat and accumulating just 45 points through nine races. His consistency was key, with four top-four finishes highlighting his day on the water.
While Tulane soared, fellow Bermudians Jordan Vieira and PJ Rodrigues had a tougher start with Eckerd College. Their team currently sits in fourth place with 255 points.
Vieira, sailing the A Class boat for Eckerd, ended the day with 72 points, securing two top-five finishes. His teammate, Rodrigues, sailing the B Class boat, finished with 73 points, as the pair looks to claw back points on day two.
The regatta continues tomorrow, with more races scheduled to determine the final standings. While Tulane holds a strong advantage, the unpredictable winds of Lake Pontchartrain mean the competition is far from over.
