Kalen Brunson and his QPR Under-21 Development Squad teammates got a last-minute leveler from Kaleb Dyke to rescue a point against Hull City in W12.
It looked like being a frustrating afternoon for Paul Furlong’s youngsters – returning to the scene of their Premier League Cup triumph in May – after Hugh Parker’s early effort.
However, Rangers finally found a response as Dyke delivered from distance late on.
Despite taking confidence from Tuesday’s first win of the season at Barnsley, Furlong’s side found themselves on the backfoot from the off.
Matteo Salamon had already been called upon from Zane Myers’ deflected free-kick before Hull opened the scoring six minutes in; the Tigers robbing Rangers of possession before Parker rifled into the roof of the net.
Six minutes later they almost had a second, but Pharrell Brown’s curling effort clipped the far post.
Three yellow cards were brandished during a feisty first period, which ended as it started. Salamon coming to the R’s rescue again with a strong hand to thwart Myers.
However, Rangers were much-improved after the break and came close twice in quick succession midway through the second half. Dyke’s long-range drive was smothered away by Callum Yam in the Tigers goal, which was shaking seconds later as Archie O’Brien headed against the crossbar.
Just as the contest threatened to fizzle out, there was just enough time for Dyke to try his luck once more. This time Yam had no answer as the midfielder’s effort whistled past to earn Rangers a deserved share of the spoils.
