Marli Butterfield and her Delaware State University (DSU) women's soccer teammates have secured a quick second win of the season, defeating Temple 2-1 in a home match at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The victory improves the Hornets' record to 2-1-0 overall.
Delaware State came out of the blocks firing, with Nicole Cargill scoring her second goal of the season just a minute into the match, assisted by Yazmeen Smith. The Hornets' early dominance continued, as Smith then found the net herself just three minutes later, securing her first goal of the season and putting Delaware State up 2-0.
Temple managed to pull a goal back in the 12th minute through Shari Atkins, but the quick-fire double from Delaware State proved to be the difference-maker. Despite Temple's efforts to find an equalizer, the 2-1 scoreline held firm until the final whistle, a testament to the Hornets' defensive resolve. The win will give the team a huge boost of confidence as they look to build on this strong start to the season.
