A historic moment for QPR was overshadowed by a late defeat as 16-year-old Bermudian Kalen Brunson made his senior debut, becoming the club's second-youngest player ever, in a 3-2 Carabao Cup loss to Plymouth Argyle.
Despite a promising start at Home Park, where a youthful QPR side led 2-0 at the break, three second-half goals saw the Pilgrims progress to the second round. Daniel Bennie and Rayan Kolli had given Rangers the advantage, with their goals sandwiching a penalty save from goalkeeper Paul Nardi.
However, the game turned on its head after the restart. Brendan Wiredu and Owen Oseni struck within nine minutes to level the scores, and Oseni grabbed his second of the evening with 12 minutes remaining to seal the comeback victory for the hosts.
With five minutes remaining, Brunson entered the fray, making his senior debut at just 16 years old. His appearance writes him into the club's history books as their second-youngest player ever, a record only surpassed by Frank Sibley, who made his debut as a 15-year-old in 1963.
