Kaden Hopkins delivered a stunning performance in Stage Six of the 74th Tour Cycliste International de la Guadeloupe, securing a hard-fought second place in a dramatic finish.
The 147km stage from Goyave to Petit-Bourg was a tactical battle, and Hopkins, representing Uni Sport Lamentinois, crossed the line just a single second behind the stage winner, Dawid Lewandowski, with a time of 3:21:34.
This result is another significant boost for Hopkins in the general classification. He has now moved up to 34th overall with a combined total time of 21:57:05, and sits 28 minutes and 56 seconds behind the overall leader, Camilo Andrés.
In a candid post-race interview, a visibly exhausted and frustrated Hopkins reflected on the final moments of the stage. He explained the complexities of racing in a breakaway, saying, "I was feeling good, but I know in the race it's important to take the time to do it because you give everything in the stages."
When questioned about his visible disappointment on the finish line and whether some riders in the leading group had collaborated less effectively, he was blunt. "All the guys were riding, all the collaboration was good," he explained, before adding that it was "a long day, yes, I'm happy with second place, it's good, yes."
The raw and honest assessment from Hopkins highlights the fine margins that define professional cycling, and while he was disappointed to miss out on the win, the result is a testament to his resilience and determination to compete at the highest level.
