Kaden Hopkins has relinquished the Yellow Jersey at the Tour Cycliste International de la Guadeloupe, following a difficult Stage Two that saw him drop down the overall standings.
After a strong start to the tour where he secured the overall lead in the prologue and defended it in Stage One, Hopkins, riding for Uni Sport Lamentinois, faced a major challenge on the 137km course from Sainte-Anne to Trois-Rivières.
The Bermudian cyclist finished the stage in 57th place, with a time of 3:27:12, a significant 10 minutes and 5 seconds behind the stage winner, Jakub Kaczmarek. Kaczmarek, who clocked a time of 3:17:07, now takes over the top spot in the general classification.
The result sees Hopkins fall from first to 52nd overall, with a combined time of 7:08:17. He now sits 9 minutes and 57 seconds behind the new overall leader, Kaczmarek, who has a combined time of 6:58:20.
Hopkins will now have to regroup and look for opportunities to claw back time in the remaining stages of the demanding race.
