Seattle Reign FC clinched a crucial 2-0 victory over rivals Angel City FC on Friday night in their annual Pride Match, securing bragging rights and three valuable points. A record-breaking crowd packed Lumen Field to witness Mia Fishel make her league debut, Seattle put together a captivating second-half performance from the home side, with veteran Jess Fishlock leading the charge.
After a tense and scoreless first half, the deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute. Following an extended period of pressure, Fishlock, who entered the match after the break, was at the heart of the action. A sensational 60-yard overlapping run from defender Sofia Huerta created the opportunity. Huerta's chipped ball found Fishlock at the back post, whose initial header was saved by Angel City keeper Anderson. However, the ever-alert Welsh international reacted quickest to the rebound, smashing the ball into the back of the net to put the Reign ahead 1-0.
