Scatteraction Claims Back-to-Back Wednesday Night Wins

IslandStats.com
The Great Sound of Bermuda was once again alive with the spectacle of the Wednesday Night Sailing Series this week, as 29 boats took to the water for Race Day 16. The evening proved a masterclass in tactical sailing, with "corrected time" ultimately deciding the podium finishers.

While the thrill of being first across the line is undeniable, the true test of skill in handicap racing lies in the corrected time – a calculated figure that adjusts for differences in boat design and speed, ensuring fair competition across the diverse fleet.

"Crossfire" was the first vessel to physically cross the finish line, recording an elapsed time of 56 minutes and 7 seconds (56:07). However, once the handicaps were applied, their corrected time of 1 hour, 1 minute, and 54 seconds (1:01:54) saw them finish in 9th place on the night. "Nasty Medicine" followed swiftly, crossing the line in 56 minutes and 33 seconds (56:33), but their corrected time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 2 seconds (1:02:02) placed them 10th.

For the second consecutive week, "Scatteraction" emerged as the triumphant winner. Despite an elapsed time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 56 seconds (1:02:56) for physically crossing the finish line, their expertly calculated corrected time of 59 minutes and 34 seconds (59:34) secured them the top spot.

The battle for the remaining podium places was incredibly tight. "Menace" was declared second on the night, demonstrating a strong performance with a corrected time of 59 minutes and 44 seconds (59:44). Rounding out the top three, "Airforce" clocked in with a corrected time of 59 minutes and 54 seconds (59:54), highlighting the razor-thin margins in this competitive series.

The consistent high-level performances in the Wednesday Night Sailing Series underscore the strategic depth of sailing in Bermuda, where precision and understanding of handicaps are just as vital as raw boat speed.
