Bermuda's Conor White was in action in the UK as the National Road Series made a long-awaited return to Devon, with climbing specialist Matthew Holmes claiming a hard-fought victory at the Witheridge Grand Prix.
The challenging Witheridge Grand Prix marked the first time this century that the National Road Series had visited Devon, and it proved to be a fitting stage for a decisive performance from Matthew Holmes.
In the Open race, Holmes, known for his prowess on ascents, launched a perfectly timed attack as the peloton closed in on Witheridge for the final time. Speaking after the race, the British rider revealed he had strategically saved his legs for just such an opportunity. Powering up the demanding final climb, Holmes broke clear to take an untroubled victory, adding another National Road Series success to his career. His winning time was an impressive 2 hours, 57 minutes, and 36 seconds.
Representing Muc-Off-SRCT-Storck, Bermudian rider Conor White demonstrated his consistency and grit in the testing conditions. White crossed the finish line in 19th position, clocking a time of 2 hours, 58 minutes, and 30 seconds. This placed him 54 seconds behind the triumphant Holmes, a respectable showing in a highly competitive field.
White's participation in such a significant event on the British cycling calendar highlights his continued development and ambition on the international stage.
