Betschart Concludes Optimist Campaign as Local League Thrives

Darina Betschart has concluded her 2nd round challenge in the Girls 13-14 Age Group Division at the prestigious International Optimist Junior Golf Tournament, held on the demanding Blue Monster Course at Trump Doral.
After an opening round of 13-over par 85, Betschart significantly improved in her second round, carding a 3-over par 75. This brought her tournament total to 16-over par.. Her second round featured a more consistent display with 4 birdies and 9 pars, offset by 4 bogeys and 1 triple bogey. While she has one more round to improve her final standing, the experience so far of competing on a world-renowned course against top international junior talent will be invaluable for Betschart's development.
Meanwhile, locally, the Golfzon Leadbetter Academy Bermuda, in partnership with Five Forts Golf Club, proudly hosted Round 4 of its ongoing Junior Golf Summer Development League. The event saw 15 enthusiastic participants, demonstrating competitive spirit and impressive play.
This week's standout performances highlighted the league's emerging talent:
Cole Graham posted a solid 80 to top the Blue Tee (18-hole stroke play) division. Bradford Laing carded an impressive 22 points in the Forward Tee (9-hole Stableford) division. In the White Tee division, Rory Fosker took top honours with a 96. The Red Tee division saw a tie, with Juliana Gakundi and Lorcan McGlynn both scoring 13 points, showcasing their consistent improvement and the competitive nature of the league.
"We are so proud of how our juniors are progressing," said Quinton Sherlock, Director of Instruction at Golfzon Leadbetter Academy Bermuda. "Their dedication, improvement, and enthusiasm reflect what this program is all about growing the game and developing character."
As the series approaches its mid-way point, anticipation is building for the overall division titles. Round 5 is scheduled for next week at Five Forts Golf Club, promising more exciting action from Bermuda's next generation of golfers.
