Seattle Reign FC kicked off their international friendly campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds at Lumen Field, a match that saw the highly anticipated debut of new signing Mia Fishel.
The Reign got off to a quick start, with Fishel showing immediate intent in the 4th minute. The new forward rolled her defender expertly before unleashing a quick shot that forced a save from the Urawa goalkeeper, providing a tantalising glimpse of her attacking prowess.
Sofia Huerta opened the scoring for Seattle in the 27th minute, only for Takatsuka Ena to equalise for Urawa ten minutes later, ensuring the teams went into the break level.
The second half saw Seattle retake the lead from the spot. In the 53rd minute, a clever through ball from Nérilia Mondésir found Jordyn Huitema, who was fouled inside the box. Sofia Huerta stepped up and calmly slotted home the resulting penalty to make it 2-1.
Despite playing just 30 minutes in the first half, Fishel's dynamic play, intelligent movement off the ball, and ability to link with teammates provided a clear indication of the attacking threat she will bring to Reign FC in the crucial final stretch of their season.
