Bermuda's presence on the international triathlon stage continues to grow, with Erica Hawley securing a fantastic third-place finish at the Americas Triathlon Cup Montreal, while Nicholas Pilgrim gained valuable experience in the elite men's field.
Hawley's Consistent Form Rewarded with Bronze
Erica Hawley has continued her impressive 2025 season, clinching a commendable third spot on the podium. The Bermudian triathlete showcased her consistent form in a high-calibre race, crossing the line in 57 minutes and 36 seconds, just 24 seconds behind the dominant winner.
The women's race was ultimately taken by Canada's Desirae Ridenour, who clocked a winning time of 57:12. Ridenour has been in superb form this season, notably becoming the first Canadian in over a decade to win a World Cup triathlon earlier in the year.
Hawley’s race splits highlight her all-around strength. She exited the water after the swim leg in a time of 10 minutes and 5 seconds. She then powered through the bike course, recording a swift 29 minutes and 26 seconds, before closing out her race with a solid 17 minutes and 13 seconds on the run course. This podium finish marks another significant result for Hawley this year, adding to her growing reputation on the international circuit and undoubtedly providing a confidence boost for future competitions.
Pilgrim Gains Valuable Elite Experience
In the Elite Men's field, Nicholas Pilgrim gained crucial experience competing against a strong international contingent at the same event. Pilgrim finished 39th overall, clocking a total time of 53 minutes and 57 seconds.
Pilgrim's individual splits demonstrate his proficiency across the disciplines. He emerged from the water after the swim leg in 9 minutes and 17 seconds. He then transitioned swiftly to the bike course, completing that segment in 26 minutes and 54 seconds, and concluded his race with a determined performance on the run course, crossing the finish line in 16 minutes and 43 seconds.
While finishing outside the top tier in this highly competitive elite field, Pilgrim's participation in events like the Americas Triathlon Cup is vital for his ongoing development. Competing against seasoned professionals provides invaluable exposure to the dynamics and intensity required at this level. His presence alongside Hawley in Montreal underscores Bermuda's growing representation and talent within the international triathlon community. Pilgrim will undoubtedly take the lessons learned from this experience forward as he continues to build his career and aim for higher placings in future elite competitions.
