Bermudian international Nahki Wells and his Luton Town teammates maintained their perfect pre-season record with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Gillingham, thanks to a first-half brace from midfielder Jordan Clark.
Luton faced an early setback at Gillingham's ground when the hosts took a surprise lead just 56 seconds in, heading home from a right-wing corner. However, Luton's response was swift and decisive.
Just four minutes later, Luke Ingram levelled the score from the penalty spot, calmly slotting home after being fouled in the box following a clever ball from Kyle Hammond.
Luton then took control, with Jordan Clark striking twice in a dominant 10-minute spell. The first came in the 29th minute, a result of a mazy run from Milli Alli and a precise cross from Reuell Walters, which Clark met first-time to guide into the far corner. Ten minutes later, Clark doubled his tally, with Alli again the architect, bursting into the box down the left before setting up Clark for a low, close-range finish.
Wells, playing as a lone striker, was denied by a crucial last-ditch intervention from Andy Smith of Gillingham in the 24th minute, preventing him from pulling the trigger after a fine pass from Zack Nelson.
Luton continued to push for a third goal in the second half but were thwarted, though James Shea did well to save an early second-half penalty to preserve their two-goal advantage. Despite not adding to their tally, Clark's goals proved enough to secure a fourth straight pre-season win for Matt Bloomfield's side as they continue to build momentum for the upcoming season.
