Optimist Sailors Conclude World Championship Campaign

IslandStats.com
The 2025 Optimist World Championship in Portorož concluded today with one final race, bringing an end to a demanding week of competition for the five young Bermudian sailors. A light northeast breeze allowed the race committee to send the fleets out shortly after 10 am, successfully crowning the new individual world champions.

The final race day saw challenging conditions, as is often the case in high-level youth sailing, testing the resilience and skill of all 281 competitors.

Jesse Savage led the Bermudian contingent in the individual standings, finishing the regatta in a commendable 169th place overall with 240 net points. Savage's performance throughout the Final Series demonstrated consistency against a vast and talented international fleet.

Thomas McBain concluded his championship in 193rd place overall with 278 net points.

In the Emerald Fleet, Harry Brown ended the regatta in 215th place with 236 net points. He was closely followed by Heath Meyers, who finished in 216th place with 238 net points. Rounding out the Bermudian team's standings was Emma Brown, who secured the 223rd spot with 251 net points.

While the Bermudian sailors faced stiff competition from the world's best young Optimist racers, the experience gained at this prestigious event in Slovenia will be invaluable for their continued development and future international campaigns.
