The Bermuda Football Association’s Women’s Division match between the Dandy Stars and the Somerset Lady Trojans was dramatically halted last night due to lightning activity around the Clyde Best Center of Excellence field.
The game was called to a stop in the 33rd minute, with player safety being the paramount concern for officials. With the open-air venue vulnerable to the elements, the decision was made to suspend play as the lightning conditions posed a risk to those on the pitch and in the surrounding area.
A decision on whether the match will be replayed or if the result will stand at the time of abandonment will be communicated by the Bermuda Football Association in due course. The interruption is a frustration for both teams, who were looking to gain crucial points in the Women's League standings.
