Blake Montgomery Rapidly Ascending Senators' Prospect Ranks

IslandStats.com
Blake Montgomery, a formidable power winger combining size, speed, and a potent shot, is rapidly climbing the Ottawa Senators’ prospect rankings, showcasing significant potential to become a middle-six forward in the NHL.

According to hockey analyst Andrew Barrett, Montgomery possesses a powerful stride that, despite his substantial 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame, allows him to reach top speed quickly, effectively putting opposing defencemen on their heels. Coupled with this explosiveness is a heavy shot boasting a quick release, making him a consistent threat in the offensive zone.

Montgomery's game is characterized by a strong north-south drive, but he also demonstrates surprising agility and silky hands for a player of his stature, enabling him to move effectively in east-west plays. After making the transition from the Lincoln Stars in the USHL to the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season, Montgomery initially experienced a period of adjustment.

However, since the end of November, Montgomery has truly found his stride. He has capitalized on a top-six role with the Knights, becoming a consistent offensive producer. In his last 24 games, he has amassed an impressive 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 points, translating to an outstanding 1.5 points per game during that stretch. This dominant run included a remarkable 14-game point streak that saw him collect 24 points until January 24th.

The Bowie, Maryland native is committed to playing at the University of Wisconsin for the 2025-26 season, where he will continue his development. With his blend of physical attributes, refined skills, and recent scoring surge, Montgomery possesses all the tools necessary to forge a successful career as a middle-six winger in the National Hockey League.
