Steve Smith and Laura Burns were crowned the male and female champions respectively at the Bermuda Triathlon Association's National Heroes Day Home Event, held today in Harrington Sound.
Competitors took on a challenging course comprising a 700m swim, an 18.7km bike ride, and a 4.7km run.
Smith delivered a commanding performance to secure the men's title, clocking a winning time of 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 34 seconds (1:04:34). Smith's race breakdown saw him complete the swim in 11:51, the bike in 32:17, and the run in 20:26.
Alex Pilgrim finished as the second male, recording a total time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 43 seconds (1:05:43). Pilgrim was strong out of the water with a 10:01 swim, followed by a 35:56 bike split and a 19:46 run.
In the women's race, Laura Burns impressed, crossing the line as the female champion with a total time of 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 57 seconds (1:11:57). Burns completed the swim in 11:03, the bike in 39:26, and the run in 21:28.
Vivian Lochhead was the second female finisher, clocking 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 14 seconds (1:18:14). Lochhead's splits included a 13:25 swim, a 41:31 bike, and a 23:18 run.
The National Heroes Day Home Event provided a fitting competitive celebration for Bermuda's triathletes in the picturesque setting of Harrington Sound.
