Bermuda's representatives have faced a challenging opening day at the prestigious 2025 USA Volleyball Open National Championship in Denver, Colorado. Both the Devil’s Isle Women's squad and the Ace Boyz, competing in the Women's and Men's BB Divisions respectively, encountered defeats in their opening matches.
The U.S. Open is a significant annual event, drawing elite adult volleyball teams from across the United States and internationally.
The Devil’s Isle Women's team, placed in Group 9 of their division, faced a tough opener against Mission Unblockable. Unfortunately, the Bermudian squad fell in straight sets, losing 25-16, 25-18. Their second match of the day against the Angry Beavers also resulted in a straight-sets defeat, this time 25-14, 25-23. In their third match of the day, the Devil's Isle fell 9-25, 26-24, 15-13 to the Rusty Ol Bolts.
The Ace Boyz, competing in Group 11 of the Men's BB Division, also had a difficult start to their tournament. Their opening match saw them fall in straight sets to the Gobblers, losing 25-19, 25-23. They then took to the court for a hard-fought encounter against the Summit 40's. This match went to three sets, but ultimately the Ace Boyz were edged out, losing 25-20, 23-25, 15-12.
In Round 1b Crossover Matches the Ace Boyz defeated AAV in straight sets 25-19, 25-14, but in their second match they would fall in a three set battle to Lake Effect 25-22, 21-25, 15-8.
While Day One presented a tough set of results for both Bermuda teams, they will be looking to regroup and bounce back as the tournament continues in Denver. The experience gained competing against such a strong field will undoubtedly be valuable as they progress through the competition.
