Chelsea forward Mia Fishel is among several Chelsea players set for international duty during the upcoming break, with the young American named in the USA Under-23 squad for a highly anticipated double-header against Germany.
The United States roster features 15 players who meet the Under-23 age criteria. In line with a standard agreement for Women's Under-23 internationals in Europe, both the USA and Germany will each include five "overage players" in their squads, with the stipulation that none of these players can have been born before January 1, 1999.
For this year's U-23 Women's National Team, players born in 2002, 2003, and 2004 are age-eligible. The current US selection also includes four players born in 2001: Angelina Anderson, Samantha Meza, Kennedy Wesley, and Fishel.
Fishel brings valuable experience to the U23 squad as one of three players on the roster who have earned full caps for the senior US Women's National Team. She boasts three USWNT appearances and one goal to her name. The call-up marks a significant step in Fishel's comeback journey following an ACL injury.
Having successfully navigated her return to the pitch, she featured in several games towards the end of the season for her club, Chelsea FC, who recently celebrated a remarkable treble-winning campaign in England. Her inclusion in the USA U23 squad will provide her with crucial game time and an opportunity to further build her fitness and sharpness on the international stage.
