Bermudian footballer Rahzir Smith-Jones has been recognized for his outstanding performances this season, earning a nomination for a prestigious Berkshire Football Award. Smith-Jones is in contention for the Player of the Season (Male) award, sponsored by TradeMark Windows & Conservatories.
The nomination comes after an impressive campaign for Smith-Jones, who made a remarkable 51 appearances for his club, Binfield FC, scoring 18 goals at Step 4 of the English non-league pyramid. His contributions have clearly resonated with those within the club and the wider Berkshire football community.
One nomination for the award highlighted not only Smith-Jones' goalscoring prowess but also his significant influence beyond the pitch: "Although Rahzir’s goalscoring form will grab the headlines for himself this season, he has also been an inspiration for those coming into the Binfield team – almost acting like a father figure for them."
The nomination further detailed a particularly prolific period for the forward: "He went on a run around the January/February period scoring 13 goals in 14 games including crucial contributions in the Berks and Bucks and Velocity Cup on their way to the Semi Final as well as being the man of difference in the league to ensure the Moles’ survival."
Beyond his own performances, Smith-Jones has also been lauded for his role in supporting the development of younger players, particularly those from Bermuda making their debut in men's football: "The Moles have had a lot of people make their debut this year, especially from Bermuda and Razhir has been the one to put an arm around their shoulder and help them develop and adapt to men’s football. Their performances and confidence levels have grown by having someone to look up to."
This nomination underscores the significant impact Rahzir Smith-Jones has had for Binfield FC, both through his goalscoring exploits and his influential presence within the team. He will now await the outcome of the Berkshire Football Awards with anticipation.
