www.islandstats.com reported on Saturday that Bermuda Triathlete Erica Hawley competed in the Tiszaujvaros World Cup Triathlon event in Hungary.
Speaking to www.islandstats.com following the event Hawley said, “I raced in a World Cup in Hungary which was a Semi-Final, format. Unfortunately I did not advance through.”
Hawley continued, “Due to the weather the distance was shortened to a super sprint, this made the race even faster and more aggressive.”
Hawley went on to say, “I got beaten up in the swim, and missed the group on the bike. I managed to bike in a group that was working quite well but only 14 women advanced to the final and that would mean that it was a running race.”
“I know I am capable of running those times, however I crashed warming up the day before the race, so my hip was a bit bruised and couldn’t quite "find my legs" during the race,” continued Hawley.
Hawley concluded, “I was frustrated and disappointed with the race, especially since training has been going well, but I am excited to race next weekend in Peru and where I will be given another chance in an Olympic distance to race with the top girls in this region.”
