Sleaford recorded an emphatic victory against Grimsby in Lincolnshire ECB Premier League, winning by 146 runs.
Batting first, Sleaford began positively with Tim McIntosh hitting three boundaries in the opening over. It came as a surprise when he was caught and bowled for 34 and with the score on 77, fellow opening batsman Louis Kimberly was run out for 19.
This brought together Christian Burgess and captain Oliver Burford in a partnership that was to turn the game in Sleaford’s favor. They produced a succession of boundaries, Burford eventually fell for 80, but Burgess went on to record his first century for Sleaford, an innings which included nine fours and four sixes.
Useful contributions from Andy Hibberd, Jack Wilson and Jacob Smith ensured an imposing score as the home side eventually closed on 301 for the loss of five wickets.
Despite the best efforts of Grimsby opener Steven Butterfield, who made 74, Sleaford broke through the lower order to dismiss them for 155 with seven overs to spare, claiming maximum points to move into second place in the league. Nick Goacher was Sleaford’s most successful bowler claiming five wickets for 17.
Louth move into third place despite being bowled out for 101 at Billingborough, Joe Braithwaite claiming six wickets. But the home side’s batsmen were no match for Andy Carrington and Amila Wettasinghe who each took five wickets as Billingborough were all out for 50.
