Shianne Smith has been voted Cal State University Women's Athlete of the Week. Smith as www.islandstats.com reported yesterday, competing for her school Cal State L.A.'s women's indoor track and field team posted several outstanding marks at the Run For The Dream meet in Fresno.
Smith recorded a strong provisional NCAA Division II qualifying mark while winning the long jump and the distance medley team recorded a victory as well.
Smith won the long jump with a mark of 19-1.50 and was also part of the 4x145 relay team with Michelle Vaughner, Tanyshia Ridley, Jennifer Shoate and that won its event in 76.49. Smith also finished 15th in the 55m Hurdle clocking a time of 10.16 and she ran the second leg of the 4x400 Relay helping Brittany Manuel, Jennifer Shoate and Moriah Jubrey to finish third in a time of 4:07.66.
Last weekend Smith was part of the Cal State 4x400 relay team of Tuekeha Huntley, Jennifer Shoate and Manuel that finished sixth in its race with a time of 3:59.41.
In 2009 Smith had a sensational second season with Cal State and earned two All-America awards in outdoor track and field.
Smith picked up her first All-America honor in the heptathlon after finishing sixth with 5,079 points, she also earned All-America honors as part of the 4x100 relay team that finished third in the nation with a time of 45.63.
Smith earned All-CCAA honors in the heptathlon, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay, she also finished sixth in the 100. Had best marks of 12.05 in the 100, 24.54 in the 200, 2:15.49 in the 800, 14.78 in the 100 hurdles, 5-3 in the high jump, 18-7.75 in the long jump, 35-7.75 in the triple jump, 34-1.25 in the shot put, 99-0 in the javelin and 5,079 in the heptathlon.
