Competing for her school the University of Georgia, Latroya Darrell has won the Women’s Triple Jump at the University of Kentucky Invitational Indoor Track & Field Meet.
Darrell recorded a winning leap of 12.41m to finish .14m ahead of second place finisher Amaka Omenyinma from the University of Louisville.
Darrell had a foul jump on her first attempt before leaping 11.91m on her second attempt. Darrell leaped 12.01m on her third attempt before only leaping 11.84m on her fourth attempt.
Darrell knew she needed a leap of 12.28 to beat Omenyinma who leaped the 12.27m on her first attempt and then had a foul on her second and third try before pulling out.
On her fifth attempt Darrell leaped 12.20m, a leap that would have seen her finish 2nd, but on her final attempt Darrell leaped 12.41m to take the title. Darrell’s leap is just .43m behind Bermuda Women’s Record Holder Arantxa King.
