Chayce Smith IslandStats.com Saint Augustine’s College’s Barbara Pierre set an unofficial national record in the women’s 60-meter dash at the Eddie & Jo Smith Jr. Tar Heel Invitational indoor track and field meet on the University of North Carolina campus.
Other winners for Saint Augustine’s College were Chayce Smith in the men’s one-mile run clocking a time of 4:23.07, and the men’s 4x400 relay team finishing in a time of 3:18.31 consisting of Josh Scott, Richard Boone, Jason Boyd, and Antonio Abney.
Pierre outraced her competitors at the Eddie Smith Fieldhouse in a time of 7.25 seconds, bettering her Division II national record of 7.27 seconds which she set March 2009 at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.
The mark is not considered a Division II national record, however. According to the NCAA rules, the NCAA regional’s and championships records are the only records maintained by the NCAA. Though the time does not count as a national record, Pierre did run a personal best and won the race in an NCAA automatic qualifying time, which was faster than the time of 7.53 posted by second-place finisher Tyler Ford of the University of North Carolina.
