The Bermuda Team for the Pan Am Junior, departed Bermuda this morning. Unfortunately Aaron Evans has still not recovered from his injury he sustained while competing in the CAC Senior Championships and is unable to attend, Matthew Spring has also pulled out due to injury and Trey Simons decided to compete in East Coast Championships so therefore there are 8 athletes traveled.
This event is an under 20 event. And unfortunately for Evans this would have been his last opportunity to compete in the Pan Am Jrs.
Bermuda Team for the Pan Am Juniors
Tre Houston - 200m Jeneko Place - 100m, 200m Darico Clarke - 800m Henry Stevens-Carty - 800m Sean Trott - 5000m Tristan Joynes - 110m hurdles Ashley Berry - 1500m Alexis Bean - 1500m
Bermuda Track & Field President Donna Watson said, “They will be up against some stiff competition as the USA, Canada, Cuba, Jamaica are participants in the Pan Am Jrs. I still expect our athletes to put in some good performances”.
“Tre Houston and Jeneko Place in the sprints should do well. I am expecting good performances out of Alexis Bean and Ashley Berry in the 1500m. Henry Stevens-Carty coming off a good performance at World Jrs. should fair well in the 800m along with Darico Clarke who is now running the 800m as Evans is not competing”, continued Watson.
Watson continued, “Sean Trott is running the 5000m and so far has had a very good season. This is the first International Competition representing Bermuda for Tristan Joynes who will be competing in the 110m hurdles so we are anxious to see how he fairs against the other junior hurdlers”.
“This has been a very long season for most of our athletes so we have them competing in only 1 event. I would like to see us bring back a few medals but it is going to be a difficult competition but I have faith in our athletes that they will give 100% and we will reap the rewards. I am definitely hoping that they all end the season on a good note by at least running Personal Best”, concluded Watson.
