The first day of competition at the Russell E Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet going on at Duke Universityfor the Flyers athletes was good. Dage Minors finished 1st in the Youth Division 3000m, while Kameron Creighton finished 2nd in the 3000m Intermediate Division race.
Competing in a track meet outside of Bermuda for the first time saw Zeon Robinson and Kaluym Mills fail to qualify for the next round in the 200m. Robinson finished 2nd in his heat.
Also Five Medals 1-Gold, 3-Silver and 1-Bronze was won by members of the Pacers Track Club on Day 1 at Russell E Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet.
During the 3000m Finals Trey Simons ran a personal best time of 9:00.04 to win the GOLD medal in the 15=16 boys’ age group, Simons also a new meet record surpassing the previous record set by set by Mathew Spring in 2007.
In the 11-12 Girls 3000m Zakiyyah Showers won a Silver Medal running a Personal Best time of 11:22.85.
In the 13-14 boys Triple Jump Justin Donawa leaped 11.86m and Kyle Webb leaped 11.83m to placed second and third respectively securing the Silver and Bronze medals.
In the 17-18 Girls Triple Jump Allison Outerbridge captured a Silver Medal with a leap of 12.12m which was a Personal Best.
The Pacers also had other outstanding performances on the day as Jordan BascomeEric Hawley competing in the 11-12 Girls 3000m finishing 6th in a time of 12:22.32.
Qualifying for the 200m semi-finals;
In the 9-10- Girls saw Deminqua Daniels and Anasia Barclay qualify for the 200m Semi-Finals, also qualifying for the 200m Semi-Finals was Haile Eve in the 9-10 Boys and Azaire Smith in the 11-12 Girls. The 9-10 Girls, 11-12 Girls and 15-16 Boys teams all qualified for the 4X400 Relays finals.
