Cal State L.A.’s women’s track and field team had three student-athletes named to the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team, the USTFCCCA announced on Monday.

Vivien Wadeck and Mid-Island Strider Shianne Smith, who both earned All-America honors in outdoor track and field and Franziska Dobler, who earned a provisional qualifying mark in indoor track and field, were among 250 student-athletes representing 73 Division II programs to make up the 2009 All-Academic team.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division II Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.

Smith, a senior from Bermuda and Long Beach City College, earned a pair of All-America honors in outdoor track and field. She finished sixth in the nation in the heptathlon and was part of the Golden Eagles’ 4x100 relay team that finished third in the country.

Smith also earned a provisional qualifying mark in indoor track and field but did not compete in the nationals.

She was the CCAA Newcomer of the Year in track and field in 2008.

Bermuda Pacers Track Club

This weekend eleven (11) young athletes from the Bermuda Pacers Track Club will compete in the Fourth Annual United Age Group coaches’ Association Youth Invitational Track Meet. This marks the second year that the Pacers has taken a team to this event.

This years’ team will be lead by long distances runners Trey Simons and Jumar Mouchette. Both will compete in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m, at last year’s event both Simons and Mouchette. set meet records.

In addition, to these athletes, the club will also be sending D’mitri Williams and Daniel Emery. Both young men will compete in the 15-16 boys’ 200 and 400 metre. Shot Putter Deesa Booth will also be competing in the 15-16 girls division.

The club will also be sending some of their young male and female athletes to compete in the 11- 12 and 13-14 division. Competing in the 13-14 boys category will be Kyle Webb. Webb will be competing in the 100m, triple jump and long jump. Jahnai Perinchief will compete in the 11 and 12 boys 200metres, 400 metres and high Jump.

In the 11 and 12 girls’ category, Jordan Bascome, Kyrah Scraders, Aailyah Nolan and Precious Hayward will match their skill against the best Philadelphia and the Eastcoast has to offer. This event will mark the first time that Hayward has gone aboard to compete in an event of this nature. In total the athletes will compete in 22 individual event and 2 relays.
