Another first for the Bermuda Football Association Referee’s Committee occurred Sunday night.
Female World Cup referee Odette Hamilton officiated the Friendship Quarter-Final match between the North Village Rams and the Devonshire Cougars.
Hamilton’s lifelong dream of joining the ranks as a FIFA Referee came to fruition back in 2017.
With referees being appointed based on recommendations from local instructors and on their performances over time, her hard work and unwavering commitment would not go unnoticed.
Hamilton, who at the age of 16 embarked on an assignment to achieve the feat, honed her skills and earned the respect of colleagues and those in the football fraternity when she was officially introduced as a referee in 2010.
Back in August of 2022, the FIFA Referees Committee announced the match officials for the 2022 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
Hamilton was one of three Head Referees from CONCACAF who was selected to officiate which included Katia Garcia from Mexico, and Myriam Marcotte from Canada.
