Renowned Referee Smoger Leaves Mark in Bermuda

IslandStats.com
Within two weeks, the second legendary referee, forever associated with the great professional boxing, died. Thirteen days ago, information about the death of Mills Lane appeared. Now it has become known that Steve Smoger lost a long battle with the disease.

The 72-year-old referee was once considered one of the best in the ring. He had more than two hundred fights for the world title, including Pavlik-Taylor, Trinidad-Hopkins and Forrest-Moseley.

Smoger officiated professional bouts in Bermuda from 2012 -2017, involving local fighters Nikki Bascome, Teresa Perozzi.

In 2017 Smoger the Bermuda Boxing Commissioner at the time was able to help Anthony Mouchette obtain the license and become Bermuda’s First Official IBF/WBA Referee.

There is some inconsistency with Steve Smoger's actual year of birth. New Jersey Boxing Commission spokesman Larry Hazzard claims that Smoger was born in 1943, not 1950, as is reported in all online media, which means that Smoger was 79 years old at the time of his death.
