Ashley Yearwood and her Denison University Women’s Swimming teammates went 2-1 in The Windy City, defeating The University of Chicago (193-107), and the University of Illinois-Chicago (159-140). Denison's only loss came against Big Ten Conference member, Northwestern (221-89).
There were four NCAA 'B' cut times turned in by Denison swimmers in Chicago. Sophomore All-American Halli Garza posted the team's only event victory by winning the 200 Butterfly with a provisional qualifying time of 2:04.02. Garza would also finish fourth in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 57.93 and fourth in the 200 IM clocking 2:10.43.
Senior Breaststroker and 8-time All-American Marissa Bednarek had a great day. She finished third in both Breaststroke events and posted 'B' cut times in each. In the 100 Breaststroke she touched in 1:05.02. In the 200 Breaststroke she finished in 2:22.18.
Bednarek would also team with Carolyn Kane, Yearwood and Mary Van Leuven for a runner-up finish in the 200 Medley Relay in 1:46.35.
Last year's NCAC Swimmer of the Year, Campbell Costley, finished second in the 500 Freestyle with a provisional qualifying time of 5:01.33. She also took third in the 200 Freestyle in 1:53.15.
Senior distance Freestyler, Taylor Johns, took fourth in the 1000 Freestyle in 10:25.95 and finished fifth in the 500 Freestyle in 5:05.39.
Last week's d3swimming.com Swimmer of the Week, Carolyn Kane, logged a second-place finish in the 50 Freestyle clocking 24.34 and was a part of both runner-up Relay teams.
Other top performers for Denison included Yearwood who took fourth in the 100 Backstroke touching the wall in 1:00.01. Van Leuven checked in fourth in the 100 Freestyle in 53.46 while Elizabeth Kane placed seventh in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:00.59 and 200 Backstroke clocking 2:10.00.
