The Australian National Badminton Championships got underway with South Australia’s Verdet Kessler winning her first Singles match in straight sets.
Kessler whose mother Verniece Benjamin-Kessler was Bermuda's leading dancer 1970's – 1987, began with a 21-14, 21-11 win over Elena Kwok.
Kessler and Joy Lai joined forces in the Women’s Doubles, defeating Michelle Au and Jennie Ko in straight sets 21-10, 21-10 in 16 minutes.
Kessler teamed up with Lionel Seah in the Mixed Doubles and they went down 21-17, 21-14 to Hoe Keat Oon and Alice Wu.
