Twenty-nine Bermuda Gymnastics Association’s gymnasts will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete in the USAIGC World Gymnastics Championships over the week of June 25th – July 3rd, 2014.
This event is the pinnacle competition of the year for the Bermuda Gymnastics Team. The girls had to earn a minimum qualifying score at the International Gymnastics Challenge (Bermuda, November 2013), the Manhattan Classic (NYC, February 2014), or during the May 31st, 2014 In-House Competition.
Amanda Baughman, Bermuda Gymnastics Team Assistant Head Coach said, “The athletes who qualified did so through hard work and dedication, training upwards of 17 hours per week. The gymnasts will take on 1200 top performers from all over the United States, plus Canada, England and South Africa at this major event.”
“The week long competition consists of 5 different levels of artistic gymnastics as well as a rhythmic gymnastics session. Gemma Lightbourne, who will be representing Bermuda in rhythmic gymnastics at Commonwealth Games, will be participating in this event at the Premier (highest) level,” continued Baughman.
