Dunne & MIT Comeback to Win

IslandStats.com
Emily Dunne and her Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Women's Lacrosse teammates generated six goals during the first 7:22 of the second half en route to a 12-10 victory over Gordon College. Sophomore Kira Schott amassed eight goals, including five during the Engineers' game-changing run, while adding five draw controls and three groundballs.

Schott put MIT on the board following 2:39 of action, marking the first time Gordon College have allowed a goal in the first half this season. The hosts responded by rattling off four straight goals to capture a 4-1 lead with 9:48 left in the frame. A free-position strike from freshman Hannah Levy ended the MIT scoring drought at the 6:33 mark, but Gordon replied with a goal of its own. MIT once again narrowed the gap to two 5 - 3 courtesy of Schott's free-position marker, however, the hosts found the back of the net off the ensuing draw to enter the intermission with some additional breathing room.

Schott ignited the second-half rally with a free-position goal after 33 seconds expired before scoring three more times in the next four minutes. Sophomore Isabella DiDio connected on a feed from Levy to increase the lead to 8 - 6 and then Schott capped the spurt with a man-up tally. However, Gordon quickly narrowed the gap to two 9 - 7 at the 21:52 mark.

Gordon gradually doubled its advantage on DiDio's solo effort and another extra-man marker by Schott with 9:51 to go. Despite the deficit, MIT continued to attack as strikes with 8:32 and 2:21 on the clock brought them within two 11 - 9. MIT replied with Levy's open-net free-position blast with 1:14 left to play; however, Gordon won the ensuing draw and in a span of 12 seconds found the back of the net to wrap up the scoring.

Levy finished with two goals and an assist while DiDio tallied two goals, six draw controls, and four groundballs. Sophomore Kristyn Berretta tacked on two draw controls while classmate Christine Jiang picked up two groundballs. In net, junior Candice Kaplan came away with six saves for the Engineers.
