The Bermuda Flying Colours Mountain Bike Race Series presented by Beck’s Beer & Furniture Walk was another epic event. Yesterday’s mixed weather gave Lodge Point Park (Lagoon) a big set of teeth. Lagoon still had the flow that everyone who raced in the event last year loved, but it also had an almost naughty side, which kept everyone on their toes.
Male A Division looked like it was going to be a royal battle, as Mattew Oliveira and Domonique Mayho going lap for lap with each other. Unfortunately, it ended with Mayho cutting his rear tire and that was the end of that. So, the race ended with Oliveira taking 1st place clocking 54:21.803, Gary Raynor finished in second place with a time of 52:04.065 and Adam Kirk finished in 3rd place clocking 52:44.136. Alyssa Rowse was the only Female A rider in the race recording a time of 53:07.462.
In the Male Veteran class Hans Hirschi had the race in control from starting last to leading the pack after lap 2, but, as noted earlier, Lagoon had the taste of tire and it bit. Hirschi picked up a flat on lap 3 and was unable to carry on. The race finished with Chris Roque 1st place with a time of 52:53.114, Padraic Brown was 2nd in 46:35.312 and Neil de Ste Croix finished third in 40:11.774.
With the Lagoon course bedded down by the two previews Divisions, B Class participants were able to really show some speed. With it being such a big field, the first few laps were chaos. Riders overtaking here and there. It was great to be a part of, though. The final top three finished with Conor White taking 1st stopping the clock in 41:14.249, Jenai Robinson was 2nd in 41:22.552 and Blake Camara clocked 42:24.322 to finish third.
Female B Class finished with Tristan Narraway in 1st with a time of 44:05.483 and Cassie McPhee was 2nd in 47:35.177.
Male Novice class finished with Garth Fleming in 1st, Andrew Packwood in 2nd and Wendell Burrows in 3rd.
In the Female Novice class, Caitlin Conyers finished in 1st, Zina Jones in 2nd and Earlena Ingham rounded out the top 3.
Nicholas Narraway took 1st place in the 13-15 division, completing one more lap than Tommy Marshall, who was 2nd and 3rd place went to Manning Smith. I think the recent Mountain bike skills camp really helped Nichloas Narraway with his win today!
The 12 and under male division ended with Odin Hinzs in 1st, Gordon Smith in 2nd, and Jack Roberts in 3rd.
Chelsea Lomas, Jasmin Hasselkuss and Zahriah Outerbridge were the top three in Female 12 and under division.
