ICS/Cobra Puma Junior Championships Day Two

Aina Namiki
IslandStats.com
There was an exciting finish in the Boys Under 11 Age Group at the ICS/CobraPuma Junior Championships which concluded at the Ocean View Golf Course.

Leading by 3 shots with one hole to play young Charlie Smith made a Triple Bogey 6 to shoot 43 for his 9 holes. Lachlan Soutter missed his Putt for par to force a playoff and equaled Smith 43. Lewis McFarlane who started the day 6 shots back made quick inroads on his competitors unfortunately running out of holes and finish with 40 for his nine.

Smith’s 2 day total of 82 for 18 holes got him the winners spot, closely followed by Soutter who had 83 and McFarlane had 85. The scores are very impressive and if they stick to it these kids have a bright future in store.

In the Girls Division, 9-year-old Aina Namiki fired a solid 40 for 9 holes and ended her day with a Birdie 2 to clinch her Division with a score of 91 after the 2 days. Namiki was the lone competitor in her group and it would have been hard to beat her had anyone else entered anyway. Namiki said after the event, "I could have done a bit better but I didn't putt to good. I really enjoyed the Tournament and hopefully next year I will have other girls to play against".

In the Boys, 12-14 Division Arman Newton showed his class by firing a solid 76 to finish with a 19-shot victory over Ramsay Soutter who finished in second place with a 2-round total of 177. Saqui Robinson, finished where he started nailing down third place with a much improved 85 to finish on 180 total.

Newton said, "I was a little shaky on the first day but I shook the nerves off and played really solid today. Thank you for organizing the Tournament, it was well structured and a lot of fun.” Newton would be a golfer to watch going forward as he has a sound temperament for golf and a very positive attitude to go along with his natural ability.

As expected in the Boys 15-19 Division newly crowned Bermuda Stroke Play Champ added to his trophy cabinet by securing first place with a two-round total of 145 to win by a commanding 16 shots over 2nd placed Dylan Muso who also had a solid round 78 to finish second on 161. Jonah Faria filled in the third spot on 187 to round of a really good week for his first tournament outing.

Brian Morris said, “Thank you so much for Island Construction and Cobra Puma Golf, all of the parents, players, and volunteers. This was definitely one of the most successful Junior Tournaments by far and we look forward to hosting you all next year.”
