The light South Easterly winds and overcast skies made for fairly benign conditions. Despite the excellent condition of Port Royal Golf Course, playing the black tees mostly from the tips and greens that were running true and fast, the players had to perform at their best in order to compete.
Camiko Smith leads the tournament after 18 holes of their 36 hole Qualifier after shooting a First Round 1-under par 70, Smith recorded an Eagle, 3 Birdies, 12 Pars, and 2 Double Bogey’s.
Amateur Will Haddrell is second after an Even par 71, while another amateur Jarryd Dillas is in third at 1-over par.
Dillas advanced to the 2019 tournament, along with Michael Sims who will go into the final round 4th after shooting a first-round 2-over par 73, Daniel Augustus, Dwayne Pearman, and amateur Mikus Ming are T5th at 3-over par.
After nine holes, Smith held the lead at 2-under par, with Scott Roy tied with two amateurs Mikus Ming and Will Haddrell at 1-under par. Dwayne Pearman and amateur Fraser Hunt both made the turn at Even par.
