IslandStats.com
A beautiful day greeted the start of the 2016 edition of the Bermuda Goodwill Tournament. The Goodwill Tournament is the third of three Golf Tournaments that has ended the year, for a number of years.

The Mid Ocean Club and the Port Royal hosted the first round of this historic tournament which couldn’t have been under better conditions.

First time Goodwill participant, Hammock Dunes Club out of Florida leads the Open Gross Team Division after a 9-under par 62, followed by Kings Riding Club and the National Golf Club of Canada ‘A’ team tied for second place after 7-under pars 64’s. All three top placing teams played the Mid Ocean Golf Course.

The Open Team Net Division is lead by Port Royal ‘B’ team who shot a 12-under par 59, after their 1st round at Port Royal followed by the National Golf Club of Canada ‘A’ (MOC) taking second place with a 11-under 60.

The Senior Team Division is Georgian Bay at 11-under at Mid Ocean Club followed by long time Goodwill participants Baltusrol Golf Club after shooting a 8-under par at Port Royal is tied with the National Golf Club of Canada ‘B’ team.

The London Hunt & Country Club team takes the lead with a even par 71, with a net score of 63 over the only other Ladies Team from Mid Ocean Club after their 4-over par 75, with a 67 net score for their starting round at the Port Royal Golf Course

Recent crowned Gosling’s Invitational Champion, Canadian David Wetlauffer takes the lead in the Open Professional Stableford tournament with 19 points. Wetlauffer is playing for the Port Royal ‘B’ Team. Wetlauffer is however tied with five other professionals, GW King, Georgian Bay, Roman O’Rourke, Hammock Dunes, Bermuda Pro Camiko Smith, playing for Riverside Golf Club of Utah, Matthew Peavoy, of Oshawa Golf & Curling Club ‘B’ team, and Aaron Mueller, for the Nassau Country Club. So a close race at the top for sure, but only the first day, so plenty of time to watch how this develops.

The Senior Professional Division is lead by Kier Smith, The National Golf Club of Canada, ‘A’ team with 19 stableford point. Kier has a 3 point lease over Ted Griffin of the Woodland Golf Club ‘A’ team.

Wendy Shackelton, of the London Hunt Club leads with 14 Stableford points over Judith Anne Astwood’s 8 points. Judith Anne represents the Mid Ocean team.

The Tournament continues with the Second Round tomorrow played at the Port Royal and the Tucker’s Point Club.
