Sakari Famous has made history all season as a High Jumper for the McNeese University, and she also broke the Bermuda National Women’s Outdoor High Jump Record. Earlier this outdoor season, the University of Georgia transfer from Bermuda broke the School's High Jump Record twice and became just the second McNeese University student in school history to become a Southland Conference Champion in her special event. At the 2022 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary Round, Famous added to the list of accomplishments when she broke her own record after jumping 1.84m while qualifying for the NCAA National Championships June 8th – 11th at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
Famous set the previous record of 1.82m on April 9th this year in Texas. She's the first McNeese University High Jumper to qualify for nationals and just the second McNeese University student ever (Michael Roberson, 1997). Her mark ranks tied for third in Southland history.
