Smith Opens Season Finishing 5th in Vista Field Festival

Tyrone Smith got his 2021 Track and Field Season underway, competing in the Chula Vista Field Festival.
Smith competed in the Men’s Long Jump finishing 5th with a top leap of 8.03m.
Smith would start with back-to-back fouls, he would then leap 7.95m on his third attempt, before hitting the 8.03m mark on the fourth attempt.
A foul on the fifth attempt, before closing out with a leap of 7.95m.
Smith said, “Today was not perfect, but I hit my furthest jump since 2018. This did so much for my confidence. I’m not ashamed to say that the last year I’ve been filled with doubt about my ability and battling a little depression. Today I proved to myself I still got it.”
