Smith & Kempe Continue European Championships
The Final series started today at the 2022 EurILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy in Hyeres, France, with Bermuda pair Sebastian Kempe, and Benn Smith competing.
The wind was unstable in both race areas, forcing the Race Committee to adjust the courses many times before and during the competition.
No matter the weather or sailing conditions, nothing seems to change the solid performance of Michael Beckett these days in Hyeres. After winning the first race today (his 4th out of 7), the reigning 2021 Senior European champion in Varna is comfortably leading the ILCA 7 fleet with 9 points.
Jonatan Vadnai was in second place with 29 Net Points, Hermann Tomasgaard was in third with 32 Net Points.
In a fleet of 169, Kempe came off the water in 77th, with 137 Net Points, while Smith was in 128th, with 194 Net Points.
Kempe finished the first race of the day 14th, he then finished 2nd in the second race, while Smith crossed the line 17th in the first race, he would then cross the line 45th in the second race.
