Eve Helps Walsall Wood Win

A late goal from Mitch Botfield was enough to give Dale Eve and his Walsall Wood teammates a 1-0 away victory at Bedworth United and maintain their hopes of mounting a late run for the play-offs.

Late in the afternoon Manager, Ian Long, signed two new players defender Abel Alabi and striker Anthony Dwyer and both were included in the starting line-up which showed four changes from Saturday`s 1-1 home draw with Cambridge City.

Dropping out of the starting line-up were Tyreace Brown, Oliver West, Alex Bradley and Kevin Monteiro and in came Joe Fitzpatrick, Corey Cooper and the two new lads Alabi and Dwyer.

It was the home side who threatened first when Liam Murphy headed wide and on the half hour mark Eve saved well from Murphy.

Wood were enjoying more of the possession but chances were few and far between and the two sides went into the break goalless.

The Wood had to make a substitution at half time when Corey Cooper went down injured and he was replaced by Oliver West.

Five minutes after the interval the Greenbacks were close to taking the lead when Luke Rowe hit the cross bar with a curling shot and then Reece Blackmore fired just over for the home side.

In the seventy seventh minute the visitors had a great opportunity to take the lead when Botfield was brought down in the area by Moore but Dwyer saw his penalty well saved by home `keeper` Liam O`Brien and from the resultant corner O`Brien denied debutant Dwyer with another fine save.

With just eleven minutes of the game remaining the Wood secured all three points when following consecutive corners Botfield bundled the ball over the line to give the visitors a vital victory.
