BFA Announce Derby Weekend in Premier Division

IslandStats.com
After the Islandstats.com Football Show indicated on Sunday discussed Derby Weekend, the Bermuda Football Association, have sent out a Press Release regarding Premier Division matches this week, labeled as Derby matches.

On Saturday, October 31st, Dandy Town Hornets battles North Village Rams at home. The two teams will play each other twice within three days as their matchup in the Dudley Eve Semi-Final last night. After a good start to the season, the North Village Rams were denied the chance to go top of the Premier Division table after dropping points against X-Roads in a 2-2 draw on Match Week 4. The Dandy Town Hornets have a chance to continue their run of good form and go top of the table if they can pull off the win.

The remaining Derby matches will take place on Sunday, November 1st.

The Somerset Derby will see the Somerset Trojans take on Somerset Eagles at the Somerset Cricket Club. Bottom of the table Somerset Eagles have had a rough start to the season and will be looking pick up their first points of the season during their short trip across the bridge. Following a good start to the season with two consecutive wins, the Somerset Trojans lost their run of form, losing to league leaders Robin Hood and second-placed Dandy Town, followed by a draw to Devonshire Cougars. The last time Trojans and Eagles met in the Premier Division was January 2020 and October 2019 in which both matches ended in a draw.

The Southampton Rangers and PHC Zebras are level on seven points each, however, the PHC Zebras have a game in hand over the Southampton Rangers and will be looking to go three points ahead this weekend. After a rough start to the season and only picking up one point in their first two matches of the season, the PHC Zebras have won two consecutive games, including a comfortable 4-0 against X-Roads.

The PHC Zebras can be looked at as a young team finding their way, with the services of senior players departing at the same time, as well as a new head coach, some were thinking that they would struggle.

But three players with a lot of family history in the club have been leading from the front, team captain Marco Warren, Keishon Bean and Enrique Russell are all the grandsons of the late Earl Townsey Russell.

The Southampton Rangers look to continue their form after holding league leaders Robin Hood to a point, and a win at Devonshire Colts. In their last two meetings, each club has claimed derby bragging rights as PHC beat Rangers 2-0 in February, following a match that saw Rangers win 3-0 in October 2019.

The two Devonshire clubs will face off at Police Field, as Devonshire Colts take on Devonshire Cougars at home. Newly promoted, Devonshire Colts have yet to win a game in the Premier Division this season, losing three of their opening four matches. Third-placed Devonshire Cougars have won three of their last four matches following a loss against Dandy Town in the season opener.

The last time the Devonshire clubs faced off in the Premier Division was in the 2016/17 season, in which Cougars took all six points that was up for grabs.

St. George’s Colts and X-Roads will face off for the first time in the Premier Division. Newly promoted St. George’s Colts are seeking a second win of the season after back to back losses against Devonshire Cougars and Robin Hood. St. George’s Colts have only scored once this season, in their win against the Southampton Rangers. Meanwhile, X-Roads have only scored two goals this season in their 2-2 draw against North Village. X-Roads will be looking for their first win of the season, and three points will see them one point clear of the St. Georges Colts.
