With the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) remaining tight lipped news out of India is that the BCB has appointed Saurashtra’s Neeraj Odedra as the head coach of the national team on a short contract with a target of qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies and the US.
Neeraj was part of Saurashtra’s coaching staff since 2015 and was the head coach of the team in the current season.
Neeraj, along with former India A and current National Cricket Academy (NCA) coach Sitanshu Kotak, contributed significantly to the strengthening of Saurashtra’s red-ball team over the past decade and also won the team its maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2020. Won.
Saurashtra failed to make it to the knockouts in the short-match Ranji season in 2021-2022 but the team made it to the knockouts of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament for the first time and also reached the semi-finals of the 50-over tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Neeraj told PTI, “It is a great responsibility and a great honor to be a part of the Bermuda national team. I am grateful to the Saurashtra Cricket Association for allowing me to accept this big opportunity (in India) during the off-season.
Neeraj, who played 26 first-class matches for Saurashtra between 1998 and 2003, will leave for Bermuda on Monday. Neeraj’s contract with BCB will be from July 1st to September 15th but there is a possibility that he may get a longer contract in future.
