Delray Rawlins and his Sussex teammates took to the field for the first time in 2022 for a three-day friendly against Surrey at The 1st Central County Ground.
The friendly is the first opportunity for the team to play together since September, Tom Haines started pre-season with an impressive knock of 129 before retiring not out midway through the final session of the first day.
He would help Sussex reach 280/7 declared after 75 overs, unfortunately for Rawlins he was caught behind without scoring.
Haines showed great early form and seemed to pick straight back up from where he left off last season, bringing up his first 50 off just 47 balls. His 129 came from 169 balls, which included 21 fours. Ali Orr provided early support in the innings, with the pair posting a first wicket partnership of 66.
Dan Ibrahim added to Sussex’s total with an unbeaten half-century, finishing on 59 off 122 balls, a knock that included eight fours and one six.
