Cambridge MCCU won toss and decided to field, Cardiff were 22/4 at one stage went on to make 199/9 in their allotted 50 overs batting for 2 Hours and 41 Minutes. A 143 run 5th wicket partnership between JL Lawlor and A Milton saw them move into a respectable position. Lawlor was the top scorer with 72, while Milton scored 64, Leverock scored 4 runs. C. Guest was the pick of the Cambridge bowlers returning figures of 10-5-24-3.
In reply, Cambridge were in trouble from the start and never recovered as they were bowled out for 59, only one player made it into double figures and that was Bowers who was 30 not out, Neil Brand was the pick of the Cardiff bowlers with figures of 6-0-18-5, Leverock did not bowl.
