Kamau Leverock and his Cardiff MCCU teammates won the toss and elected to field on Day One of their Marylebone Cricket Club University, match against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
Hampshire opener Michael Carberry marked his return to first-class cricket after being diagnosed with cancer by scoring a century to lead Hampshire to a total of 289, with Leverock returning figures of 12-1-57-0, neil brand led the Cardiff MCCU bowlers with figures of 4.3-2-7-3.
Cardiff went to bat and found the going tough, when stumps were pulled for the day they had reached 59/6, trailing by 230 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the 1st innings, Leverock is next to bat.
