File Photo - Gus Logie IslandStats.com The Bermuda Cricket Board announced today the successful completion and signing of Gus Logie to a 4 year contract as National Cricket Coach beginning October 5th, 2005. Gus had originally agreed to serve for a 6 month period from April this year and has been a key element in the success of the senior team this year. Under his guidance, Bermuda has qualified for the Cricket World Cup in West Indies in 2007 and has also reached the semi-finals of the ICC Intercontinental Cup to be held in Namibia next month.
Reginald Pearman, President of the Bermuda Cricket Board noted, “We are excited and very pleased to be able to announce that Gus has agreed to a long-term partnership with Bermuda cricket in the role as National Coach. We understand that it is a major change for Gus and his family, but we believe they will be very happy in Bermuda and that Gus will continue to do a great job.”
The funding for the contract comes from a number of sources, including the Bank of Bermuda Foundation, Government and the ICC.
Pearman continued: “The ability to secure a Coach of Logie’s stature is an essential element in the continued development and progress of cricket in Bermuda. We are very grateful for the significant donation and three-year commitment made in April 2005 by the Bank of Bermuda Foundation that underpins the funding of the position of the National Coach. The Foundation has been a major supporter of many of the Board’s programs in recent years and this commitment has played a major role in allowing our National cricket team to secure the right to compete in the forthcoming Cricket World Cup.”
Director and Secretary of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation, David Lang, noted: “The Bank of Bermuda Foundation supports many local sporting charities that have a positive impact on Bermuda and our people. We are pleased to partner with the Bermuda Cricket Board in support of a National Cricket Coach for cricket in Bermuda and are especially happy to recognize the success that already has been enjoyed. We will continue to support Bermuda’s sporting organizations, like the Bermuda Cricket Board, in order to help them improve Bermuda’s standing as a sporting nation.”
